Pavitra Kotini-Shah is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, Director of Resident Ultrasound Education, and Assistant Director of the Ultrasound Fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a tenure-track researcher who recently received the BIRCWH (Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health) scholar award, which has allowed research on sex/gender differences in Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrests (OHCA) using a large national database called CARES. Her primary ultrasound research interest is in advanced echocardiography applications for cardiovascular emergencies, so is also using results from the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL) Echocardiographic database to evaluate global longitudinal strain (GLS) as a predictor of adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Currently, with the COVID pandemic, she is leading the effort at University of Illinois Health System to incorporate POCUS into the workflow in the ED and inpatient.
