Steve Aks, DO

Dr. Aks is the Director of Toxikon Consortium a division of Toxicology in the department of Emergency Medicine at the Cook County Health and Hospitals System. He also serves as the Medical Toxicology Fellowship Director, The Toxikon Consortium Professor, and his part of the Department of Emergency Medicine/Rush Medical College. The Toxikon Consortium is a functional management consortium that pools the toxicology resources from the following four major medical institutions: Cook County Health and Hospitals System, University of Illinois Hospital – Chicago, Rush University Medical Center and the Illinois Poison Center. The missions are to provide excellent poisoning and toxicology care to the people of Chicago and Illinois, and to provide education and training to medical and pharmacy students, and toxicology fellows. Bedside consultation of poisoned patients is carried out at the consortium hospitals and clinics. To date more than 1200 residents (Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine and Occupational Medicine), and more than 600 students have been trained on the Toxikon Consortium rotation.
